Hackers Weaponize Telegram Messenger to Spread Malware
Cybercriminals have escalated mobile malware distribution by exploiting Telegram X messenger, deploying a backdoor that grants full control over victims' devices. The malware spreads through deceptive in-app ads and third-party app stores, masquerading as dating and communication platforms.
Over 58,000 devices have been compromised, including smartphones, tablets, and Android-based vehicle systems. The campaign primarily targets Brazilian and Indonesian users through localized phishing templates, redirecting victims to fake app catalogs with fraudulent reviews and promotional banners.
Established third-party repositories like APKPure have also been infiltrated, marking a concerning evolution in mobile cyberthreats. The attack vector underscores growing risks in unverified app distribution channels.
